The
Dreamer; Silver, shibuchi 10%,
sugilite, and red coral
Although this piece contains a face that is
similar to the Moai of Rapa Nui, Easter
Island, it was not my intention to depict
one of them. However, it still fits with the
lore of the Dreamer.
The Dreamer lore is a series of images that
I have created of sleeping faces, a tribute
to the dreamer of reality, the one who
dreams us all. Many folklores from around
the world make mention of life being a
dream, and the dreamer, whether us dreaming
our lives, or us as pawns in the big dream
of a larger supernatural dreamer.
Those large monolithic sculptures of Easter
Island boggle modern scientists with an
elevated sense of superiority. I cannot
stand it when I hear scientists, historians,
and television producers all setting around
speculating that ancient peoples could never
have carved something as large or moved the
Maoi. Or, that the Pyramids are too perfect
for man to have created at that time.
As if only modern man can do fantastic
things such as this using machines.
But, personally I feel like we are more
inept today than we have been historically.
For example, as a kid I used to have my hair
cut super even and flawlessly by a WWII
naval veteran, who learned his trade upon
necessity. He used scissors and only
scissors to work his magic. Try going to get
your hair cut today and asking for a perfect
flattop using only scissors. They cannot do
this or think they cannot. Technology gained
is an understanding and stregnth lost,
especially when we start to rely on this
technology. We lose abilities.
Also, hardly anyone hand gauges out sheets
of metal with a hammer, in this rolling mill
world. And, how many engineers work out
their formulas on scratch paper these days.
So, when people look at these wonderful
feats of marvel, they think in terms of
today. However, there was a time when humans
did not rely upon being taught to do things,
they just did. Now-a-days, we rely too much
on “experts” to tell us what our limitations
are. I am pretty sure that I could build a
pyramid or a Maoi. I did make this pendant,
so I am pretty sure that if I set my mind to
it, I could do just about anything .
This pendant is tribute to the dreamer of
reality, the one who sets the limits of
reality. However, it is our job to push
these limits, overcome fear, and push
forward. The stone used is sugilite,
associated with strengthening the heart and
relaxation. And, red coral is associated
with Mars and strength. And, strength is
what we need for we have a big task ahead
within this dream. |
